History of San Martin
San Martin got its name from St. Martin of Tours. He was a patron saint of the Santa Clara Valley. An early settler named Martin Murphy Sr. named the area. He was one of the first people to settle there and built the first Catholic church in the area.
Since 2004, the community has thought about becoming an official city. However, because it is a small place, there have been worries about how it would pay for city services. Another idea has been for Morgan Hill to take over the area.
