Sandringham is a small village and civil parish in the north of Norfolk, a county in England. It is located about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) south of Dersingham. The village is also about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) north of King's Lynn. Norwich is further away, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) to the north-west.
The name Sandringham means 'Sandy Dersingham'. The name 'Dersingham' itself means 'homestead or village of Deorsige's people'.

What is Sandringham?
Sandringham is most famous for Sandringham House. This house and its large estate are a private home for the British monarchs. It has been used as a holiday home by the royal family since Edward VII.

Near Sandringham House is the Royal Stud. This is a special stud farm where many of the royal horses live. Sandringham was also the birthplace of Diana, Princess of Wales. She was a very important member of the royal family.
Sandringham's Area and People
The civil parish of Sandringham stretches west from the village. It reaches all the way to the shore of the Wash, which is about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) away. This area includes the villages of West Newton and Wolferton.
The total area of the parish is about 41.91 square kilometers (16.18 square miles). In 2001, about 402 people lived here in 176 homes. By 2011, the population had grown slightly to 437 people. For local government, Sandringham is part of the King's Lynn and West Norfolk district.
