Sarah Anne Cooper (born December 19, 1977) is an American author, YouTuber, and comedian. She is known for her funny videos. In these videos, she often lip-syncs to famous speeches.

Sarah has written several books. Her first two books, 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings and Draw What Success Looks Like, came out in 2016. Her third book, How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men's Feelings, was published in 2018.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah became very popular. She started making videos where she lip-synced to statements made by Donald Trump. These videos were a big hit. Because of their success, she appeared on many TV talk shows. In October 2020, her own show, Sarah Cooper: Everything's Fine, started on Netflix.

Early Life and Education

Sarah Cooper was born in Jamaica in 1977. Her family moved to Rockville, Maryland, in 1980. Her father was an electrical engineer. Her mother worked in human resources.

As a teenager, Sarah was interested in show business. She wanted to study theater. However, her parents encouraged her to study other subjects first. She earned degrees in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also studied digital design at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Career Journey

Starting in Comedy

Sarah began doing stand-up comedy in Atlanta. At that time, she worked as a visual designer at Yahoo!. Later, she was a user experience designer for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. She continued to write and perform stand-up comedy.

In 2014, Sarah wrote a blog post. It was called "10 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings." This post became very popular, getting five million views. Later that year, she left Google. She decided to focus on writing and comedy full-time.

Books and Satire

Sarah's first book, 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings, came out in October 2016. It was a funny, satirical take on self-help books. Her "coloring and activity book," Draw What Success Looks Like, was also published that month.

Her third book, How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men's Feelings, was released in October 2018. This book offered funny advice for women. For example, it suggested, "Pepper your emails with exclamation marks and emojis.... Your lack of efficient communication will make you seem more approachable." Her books were not big sellers at first. By the end of 2019, Sarah was thinking about quitting comedy.

Viral Videos

In spring 2020, Sarah started making videos on TikTok. In these videos, she would lip-sync to comments made by Donald Trump. These comments were about ways to treat the coronavirus.

Her first video to go viral was called "How to Medical." In it, she lip-synced to a minute of audio from a press briefing. In that briefing, Trump suggested using light and disinfectant to treat the virus. Sarah made several other popular videos using the same idea. By late October 2020, "How to Medical" had over 24 million views. This was across Twitter and TikTok.

Sarah's videos were seen as very clever political satire. They used unedited voice clips of politicians. This simple style was a new way for comedians to work during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Sarah explained that she removed the formal setting and the people agreeing with him. This left only his words, which she felt were not the best.

Sarah was named Digital Creator of the Year by Adweek. She was also nominated for "Creator of the Year" and "Comedy" at the 10th Streamy Awards.

Television Appearances

After her TikTok videos became popular, Sarah was invited to many TV shows. She appeared on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She also appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She even guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

In the show, Sarah plays the host of a made-up morning news program. The show has funny news segments, interviews, and commercials. It also features sketches with famous people like Jon Hamm and Whoopi Goldberg. Sarah's character tries to stay positive while reporting on big world changes in 2020. The show's title, Everything's Fine, is meant to be sarcastic.

Reviews for the show were mostly positive. Critics thought its humor was smart. The Guardian gave it 4 out of 5 stars. They called it "a funny and striking document of what living feels like in this fraught and febrile year."

In August 2020, it was announced that Sarah and Cindy Chupack would create a comedy show for CBS. It was based on her book How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men's Feelings. However, the show was not picked up to become a full series.
