Savannah is a small town located in the southeastern part of Wayne County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,730 people lived there.
The town also has a smaller community, or hamlet, which is also called Savannah. This is where the town's main government offices are located.

History of Savannah
Early Settlements
One important historical spot in Savannah is Fort Hill. This was once a native village, built on the highest land in the town. In the 1600s, a Jesuit mission was built here. It was on the remains of an even older village.
Like many other towns nearby, Savannah was part of the Central New York Military Tract. This was land set aside for soldiers after the American Revolutionary War. The first modern settlers arrived in Savannah around 1808. However, Savannah is known as the last town in Wayne County to be settled.
Town Establishment
The Town of Savannah was officially created on February 28, 1825. It was formed from a part of the Town of Galen.
Historic Buildings
- Wiley Schoolhouse: This school was built in 1874. It is a fully restored one-room schoolhouse. It used to be for District #11. You can find it where Wiley, Hogback, and Olmstead roads meet.
- Crusoe House: Built in 1824, this is the oldest building in Savannah. It is located near Crusoe Lake on New York State Route 89. The Crusoe House was first a hotel and a tavern. The very first town meeting was held here in April 1825. It also served as the first post office for the area.

Land and Water
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Savannah covers about 36.2 square miles (93.7 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 36.0 square miles (93.16 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.2 square miles (0.55 square kilometers), is water.
Location and Borders
Savannah is located west of the city of Syracuse.
- The eastern border of the town is shared with Cayuga County.
- The southern border is shared with Seneca County.
Main Roads
Two important highways pass through Savannah:
- New York State Route 31: This highway runs from east to west.
- New York State Route 89: This highway runs from north to south. Part of it joins with Route 31 in the town.
Natural Areas
Savannah is known for its swampy areas, especially north of Cayuga Lake. These areas are home to several important conservation sites:
- Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge: A large wildlife area located in the southern part of the town. It's a great place for animals and plants.
- Montezuma Audubon Center: This center is on New York State Route 89, near Crusoe Lake. It is a state-owned facility for nature education. It also has a preserve. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the National Audubon Society work together to run it.

- Mays Point – A historic location in the southern part of the town.
- Pangburn Corners – A location at the northern town line on County Road 272.
- Montezuma Marsh – An important swamp located in the southwestern part of the town.
- Noble Corner – A hamlet on the western town line.
- Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area – These are conservation areas found in the center of the town.
- Savannah – This is the main hamlet where NY-31 and NY-89 meet. It used to be an official village but changed its status in 1979.
- Tamarack Swamp – A swamp located north of Crusoe Lake.
