Seaford Heights is a growing area near Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It's a suburb that is part of the City of Onkaparinga and has the postcode 5169. This area is bordered by Robinson Road to the north, Main South Road to the west, Victor Harbor Road and Ostrich Farm Road to the east, and The Southern Waste Depot to the south. It covers about 77 hectares, which is like 190 football fields!

What is Seaford Heights?

Seaford Heights is a newer suburb designed for people to live and work. It's located in the southern part of Adelaide. The area is known for its recent development and its closeness to both the city and the famous McLaren Vale wine region.

How Seaford Heights Grew

Work to build Seaford Heights started in early 2014. The first permanent buildings, like an Aldi supermarket, were finished by late 2015. The Aldi store officially opened its doors in February 2016, bringing new shopping options to the area.

The original plan for Seaford Heights was quite big. A company called The Fairmont Group was chosen in 2008 to develop the land. They planned to build about 1,300 homes, which would mean around 4,500 people living there.

Why Some People Were Concerned

Even though Seaford Heights was planned to grow, not everyone was happy about it. Many people felt that building a new suburb in this area was a type of "urban sprawl." This means cities spreading out too much into natural or rural areas.

What Were the Main Worries?

One big concern was that the new suburb would get too close to the beautiful McLaren Vale wine region. This area is famous for its vineyards and wineries. People worried that new housing would take away from this important agricultural land. A Facebook page called 'We Oppose Seaford Heights' even gained almost 1,000 supporters who shared these concerns.

Another worry raised with the City of Onkaparinga council was about the location of the new homes. Residents were concerned that the residential area would be located between two very busy roads: Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road. There were also concerns about the suburb being close to a waste depot. People also questioned the idea of building a "strip mall" (a row of shops) right next to Adelaide's large grape fields.
