Selena was a famous singer who released 22 music videos and 12 video or live albums during her career. Music videos are short films that go along with a song. Video albums are collections of these videos, sometimes with live concert footage.
Selena's first music video was for the song "Buenos Amigos". This was a duet with Salvadoran singer Álvaro Torres. It came out in the summer of 1991. The video showed an orchestra playing behind Selena and Torres. Four months later, Selena released her first music video as a solo artist, "La Carcacha". In this video, Selena danced in front of a special screen called a chroma key. This screen showed a busy highway and people walking on the streets.
In the spring of 1993, "La Llamada" was released. This video featured Selena and others dancing the cumbia dance at a beach house in Malibu, California. "Donde Quiera Que Estes" was filmed in New York City and came out in December 1993. In this video, Selena and the Barrio Boyzz danced in a hip hop style.
"Amor Prohibido" was released on Valentine's Day in 1994. It was filmed in Joshua Tree National Park in California. The video for "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" was filmed at the Santa Monica pier. "No Me Queda Mas" was filmed at the San Antonio, Texas Amtrak station. This became Selena's last music video to be released while she was alive.
After Selena's passing, more music videos were released. "No Debes Jugar" came out in July 1995 through Telemundo. It showed live performances of Selena singing the song on a TV show called Padrisimo. "Fotos y Recuerdos", also released by Telemundo in July, featured home videos of Selena. In August 1995, "I Could Fall in Love" was released, showing videos and pictures of Selena.
The music video for "Dreaming of You" told a story. It showed an actress playing a lonely girl packing her clothes to run away with her boyfriend. Before she leaves, the video shows her mother looking at the night sky while her husband sleeps. The video's message is about how important it is to spend time with your loved ones because life is short.
"Techno Cumbia" included scenes that were not used in the "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" music video. It also featured a group of dancers. "Tú Sólo Tú" was released in September 1995 and showed videos and pictures of Selena. The Mariachi Sol de México group was in the video and sang backup on the song. "I'm Getting Used To You" was the last music video from the Dreaming of You album. It showed people auditioning to play Selena, and also a scene with two young adults in love.
"Siempre Hace Frio" was released to promote the remix album Siempre Selena. In this video, Jennifer Lopez played Selena, but her whole body was covered with a chroma key effect. "No Quiero Saber" (remix version) came out in December 1996. It showed Selena performing the song at her concerts.
"Viviras Selena" is a tribute song that was released in March 1997. The video was filmed at the Q-Productions recording studio. It showed Tejano singers like Pete Astudillo, Bobby Pulido, Emilio Navaira, Jennifer Pena, Graciela Beltran, and the Barrio Boyzz recording the song live. "A Boy Like That" was released in the summer of 1997 and was directed by Kenny Ortega. This video featured backup dancers wearing shirts that glowed in the dark.
"Missing My Baby" was a special video made by VH1 producers. It promoted the Anthology (1998) box-set and was released in the fall of 1998. The "Disco Medley" music video showed Selena performing the song at the Houston Astrodome on February 26, 1995. In 2001, Los Tres Reyes released their version of "No Me Queda Mas" as a duet. Selena appeared in two scenes of their music video. David Byrne released a live music video featuring Selena in the song "God's Child (Baila Conmigo)", filmed in 2003. For Selena's tenth death anniversary in March 2005, her brother's band Kumbia Kings released a remix video of "Baila Esta Cumbia".
