Sergi Barjuán Esclusa (born 28 December 1971), known simply as Sergi, is a Spanish former professional footballer. He played as a left-back. Today, he works as a manager.
Sergi is most famous for his time playing for Barcelona. He played for their main team for nine seasons. He helped them win nine big titles. Soon after starting his professional club career, he joined the Spanish national team. He played in two World Cups and two European Championships.
In 2009, Barjuán started his career as a manager. He led teams like Recreativo, Almería, and Mallorca. He also had short times managing in La Liga. This included a temporary role at Barcelona.

Playing for Clubs
Sergi was born in Les Franqueses del Vallès, Barcelona, in Catalonia. He grew up playing football in the youth teams of FC Barcelona. He joined the main team in 1993. His coach, Johan Cruyff, picked him for a UEFA Champions League game. From then on, Sergi became a key player for Barcelona. He played in at least 31 matches every season until 1999.
With Barcelona, he won many important trophies:

Coaching Barcelona Youth Teams
In July 2009, Sergi returned to Barcelona. He became the manager for their Juvenil B youth team. Before this, he worked in marketing and ran football camps for young players. During his time as a youth coach, he helped train future senior team stars. These included players like Gerard Deulofeu, Patric, and Rafinha.
Managing Professional Teams
Sergi got his first job managing a professional team on 22 May 2012. He signed a three-year contract with Recreativo de Huelva in the Segunda División (Spain's second division). In his second year, his team almost made it to the play-offs. He left Recreativo in June 2014.
He then managed UD Almería starting in April 2015. This team was in La Liga (Spain's top league). His first game was a big loss to his old club, Barcelona. He was dismissed from Almería in October 2015.
In April 2017, Sergi took over as manager of RCD Mallorca. He left the club when his contract ended that season. Mallorca was relegated to the third division that year.
Coaching Abroad and Return to Barcelona
On 26 November 2017, Sergi moved to China. He became the manager of Zhejiang Greentown F.C. in the China League One. He coached there for almost two years. He left the club in July 2019.
In June 2021, Sergi returned to Barcelona again. He was appointed manager of FC Barcelona Atlètic, the club's reserve team. In October 2021, he was put in temporary charge of the main Barcelona team. This happened after the previous manager, Ronald Koeman, was dismissed. He managed the main team for a short time. He oversaw a draw and a win in his three games. After this, he went back to managing Barcelona B. He was dismissed from Barcelona B in June 2022. However, he stayed at Barcelona. In October, he started working for their global academies.
