Shamier Little (born March 20, 1995) is an amazing American athlete who runs track and field. She is especially good at the 400-meter hurdles, which is a race where runners jump over obstacles.

When she was just 20 years old and studying at Texas A&M University, Shamier became the US champion in 2015. She also won silver medals at the World Championships in 2015 and 2023 for the 400-meter hurdles. In July 2021, she even became the fifth fastest woman ever in this race!

Most recently, at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Shamier won a gold medal in the 4 × 400 meter relay. She also earned a silver medal in the mixed 4 × 400 meter relay.

Shamier Little's Early Life

Shamier Little was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Her parents were also athletes! Her dad played football as a cornerback, and her mom was a great basketball player and high jumper at Eastern Kentucky University.

Shamier started doing youth track and field when she was 8 years old. She first competed at a national level in 2004. She ran the 100 meters for the University of Chicago Youth Track Club. She often took part in local track meets. Later, she ran for the Country Club Hills Gazelles in different competitions. Her early races were not super special, but she kept working hard.

High School Track Success

At Robert Lindblom Math & Science Academy in Chicago, Shamier became more serious about running. She set new records for the IHSA Class 2A in the 100 metres hurdles, 200 metres, and 400 metres.

In 2011, she won the AAU Junior Olympics in the 400-meter hurdles. She also won the Arcadia Invitational in the 400 meters in both 2012 and 2013. In 2012, she won the Junior National Championships in the 400-meter hurdles. This qualified her for the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics. However, she fell over the last hurdle in the final race and did not finish.

Shamier Little's College and Professional Career

After high school, Shamier decided to attend Texas A&M University. As a freshman, she won the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles. She also helped her team get second place in the 4 × 400 meters relay. Later that summer, she won the World Junior Championships in the 400-meter hurdles.

In 2015, she won the NCAA Championship again. She ran the fastest time in the world for that season! Winning the National Championship gave Shamier an invitation to compete in the 2015 Pan American Games. There, she won a gold medal.

In 2016, Shamier won her third straight NCAA 400-meter hurdles title.

In October 2024, it was announced that she joined the first season of Grand Slam Track. This is a new track league started by famous sprinter Michael Johnson.
