Shamier's Early Life and Training

Shamier Little was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Her parents were also great athletes. Her dad played football, and her mom was a star in basketball and high jump.

Starting Track and Field Young

Shamier started running track and field when she was just 8 years old. She first competed at a national level in 2004. She ran the 100 meters for the University of Chicago Youth Track Club. Shamier often took part in local track meets. Later, she ran for the Country Club Hills Gazelles team. Even though she competed a lot, her early youth races were not super outstanding.

High School Success

Shamier attended Robert Lindblom Math & Science Academy in Chicago. This is where she really started to shine in track. She set new records for her state (Illinois High School Association, Class 2A) in the 100 meters hurdles, 200 meters, and 400 meters.

In 2011, she won the AAU Junior Olympics in the 400 hurdles. She also won the Arcadia Invitational 400 meters race in both 2012 and 2013. In 2012, she won the Junior National Championships in 400 hurdles. This win qualified her for the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics. However, she fell over the last hurdle in the final race and could not finish. In 2013, she tried the 100 meters hurdles and 400 meters at the National Championships but did not win a medal.

Shamier's Professional Career

After high school, Shamier decided to go to Texas A&M University. Her college career was very successful.

College Championships

As a freshman in 2014, Shamier won the NCAA Championships in the 400 hurdles. She also helped her team get second place in the 4 × 400 meters relay. Later that summer, she won the World Junior Championships in the 400 hurdles.

In 2015, she won the NCAA Championship again. Her amazing time was the fastest in the world at that point in the season! This win earned her an invitation to the 2015 Pan American Games. There, she won a gold medal.

Shamier won her third straight NCAA 400 meters hurdles title in 2016.

Joining Grand Slam Track

In October 2024, it was announced that Shamier Little would join the first season of Grand Slam Track. This is a new track and field league started by the famous sprinter Michael Johnson.
