Sherwin Summit is a special place where a road crosses over a mountain. It is located on U.S. Highway 395 and sits at an elevation of 6,427 feet (1,959 meters) above sea level.

Discovering Sherwin Summit

This mountain pass is found in the eastern part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is south of a small town called Tom's Place and a large body of water known as Crowley Lake.

What Makes Sherwin Summit Special?

After crossing the summit, the road goes downhill for about 2,400 feet (610 meters). This long slope leads into the Owens Valley, which is about 4,000 feet (1,200 meters) high. The Owens River flows near the road from the summit all the way through the Owens Valley.

Many drivers use Sherwin Summit to reach higher places like Mammoth Lakes. These towns are popular in summer because they offer a cool escape from the hot desert areas to the south.

Weather at the Summit

During winter, Sherwin Summit often gets snow. However, the area does not receive a lot of rain or snow throughout the year compared to other places.
