Sibel Redžep (Turkish: Sibel Recep, Macedonian: Сибел Реџеп; born December 12, 1987) is a talented singer from Sweden, originally from North Macedonia. She became well-known after appearing on the Swedish TV show Idol 2005, where she finished in third place. Before that, she was also a semi-finalist in Idol 2004, but she didn't make it to the finals that year.

Before Idol, Sibel lived in Kristianstad, Sweden. She is very good at languages and can speak Swedish, Turkish, Macedonian, English, French, and a little Chinese and German. Sibel also sang background vocals for the popular song "It's Alright, It's OK" by Ashley Tisdale in 2009.

Early Life and Idol Journey

Sibel Redžep was born in Radoviš, a town in the mountains of southeastern North Macedonia. At that time, it was part of a country called Yugoslavia. Her family is of Turkish background and lived in a small Macedonian village nearby called Topolnica.

In 2004, when Sibel was 16 years old, she entered the Swedish talent show Idol. She sang "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. Her performance was so moving that one of the judges, Peter Swartling, even shed tears. The next year, in Idol 2005, she made it very far but was beaten just before the final by Agnes Carlsson and Sebastian Karlsson.

Music Career

After Idol 2005, Sibel's career took off. One of the "Idol" judges, Peter Swartling, became part of her management team. He had promised to work with her. In the summer of 2006, they started recording music in a studio in Dublin with songwriter and producer Christian Antblad. They decided to focus on big, emotional songs that would show off Sibel's powerful voice.

One of these songs, "How I Tried To Let You Go," started as a small idea Sibel sang over the phone. Christian and Peter loved it and developed it into a full song. Sibel recorded about thirty songs in total. After her recording sessions, she returned to her hometown of Kristianstad to finish high school.

Melodifestivalen Appearances

Sibel Redžep has participated in Melodifestivalen twice. This is a big music competition in Sweden where the winner gets to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Melodifestivalen 2008

In Melodifestivalen 2008, Sibel sang the song "That Is Where I'll Go". She made it through the semi-finals and then to the "Andra chansen" (second chance) round, which led her to the grand final. She hoped to represent Sweden at Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. However, she was eventually beaten by Charlotte Perrelli, who went on to represent Sweden that year.

After her appearance on the show, Sibel released her first album, The Diving Belle. She also released two singles from the album: "That Is Where I'll Go" and "Make Believe". There were also plans to release her debut album in her native language, Turkish.

Melodifestivalen 2010

Sibel participated in Melodifestivalen 2010 with the song "Stop". She performed in the fourth semi-final on February 27. The song was written by Mikaela Stenström and Dimitri Stassos. She competed again for the chance to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest, but she placed 7th in her semi-final and did not advance.
