South Delhi is a large district in Delhi, India. It's like a big neighborhood with its main office in Saket. This area is divided into three smaller parts: Saket, Hauz Khas, and Mehrauli.
South Delhi is surrounded by important places. The Yamuna River is to its east. New Delhi is to the north. To the southeast is Faridabad District in Haryana state. Gurgaon District (also in Haryana) is to the southwest. Finally, South West Delhi is to the west.
In 2011, about 2.7 million people lived in South Delhi. It covers an area of 250 square kilometers. This means many people live close together, with about 9,034 people per square kilometer.
The Hauz Khas area in South Delhi is very popular. It has many cool shops and places to stay. It's becoming a favorite spot for tourists from India and other countries. History of South Delhi
South Delhi is a very old area with many important historical sites. Out of the eleven 'historical cities' of Delhi, three are found here. These include Qila Rai Pithora (the first city), Mehrauli (the second), and Siri (which includes Hauz Khas) (the third).

South Delhi is known as one of the wealthiest residential areas in Delhi. It has many upscale neighborhoods. These include Saket, Sainik Farm, Malviya Nagar, and Hauz Khas. Other well-known areas are Greater Kailash, Green Park, and Vasant Vihar. Land prices here are among the highest in Delhi.
Some old "urban villages" in South Delhi have become very trendy. For example, Hauz Khas Village and Shahpur Jat are now popular. They have many designer shops, restaurants, and art galleries.
Education in South Delhi
South Delhi has several top educational institutions in India.
- The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is a leading technology school.
- The All India Institute of Medical Sciences is a top medical institute.
- The National Institute of Fashion Technology is a premier fashion school.
These three are all located in the Hauz Khas area.
The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade is also in South Delhi. It is in the Qutub Institutional Area. Jamia Millia Islamia is a major Central University located in the Jamia Nagar area. The University of Delhi South Campus is also in this region. It is one of India's oldest universities.
Important Areas and Roads
South Delhi has many old settlements called 'sarais'. These were once resting places. Today, they are often crowded. Some of these include Chirag Delhi, Kalu Sarai, and Hauz Khas Village.
Many important city roads run through this district. These include Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. Major roads like the Inner Ring Road and Outer Ring Road also pass through South Delhi.
