History of Faridabad
The city of Faridabad was started in 1607. It was founded by Sheikh Farīd, who worked for the Mughal emperor Jahangir. The main reason for building the city was to protect the important Grand Trunk Road. This road connected Delhi and Agra.
Faridabad is located in the cultural areas of Braj and Mewat. After India became independent, Faridabad was first part of the Gurgaon district. But on August 15, 1979, it became its own independent district.
A nearby village called Tilpat (which was then known as "Tilprastha") has an interesting history. It was one of five villages that the Pandavas asked for to avoid a big war, according to ancient stories.
