St Nicholas Church is a Church of England church. You can find it in a village called Gayton in Norfolk, England.

What is St Nicholas Church?

This church building was finished in 1604. It has a special tower with a domed top. On each of the four corners of the tower, you can see symbols. These symbols represent the four evangelists, who wrote parts of the Christian Bible. They are a winged man for St Matthew, a lion for St Mark, an ox for St Luke, and an eagle for St John.

The church is considered very important. On August 15, 1960, it became a Grade I listed building. This means it is a building of exceptional interest. It is protected to make sure it stays safe for many years.

A Royal Wedding Connection

In September 2013, a special wedding took place at St Nicholas Church. James Meade, whose dad was a famous horse rider, married Lady Laura Marsham. Her family lives nearby at Gayton Hall.

Some very famous guests attended this wedding. These included Prince William, Prince Harry, and Pippa Middleton. It was a big event for the small village!

St Nicholas Church is open every day. You can visit from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon. It's a great chance to see this historic building.
