Exploring Stanford-le-Hope's Location
Stanford-le-Hope is located near the Thames Estuary to the south. The A13 road borders it to the north. It is about 12.7 miles (20.5 km) west of Southend-on-Sea.
The town centre feels like a village. It has an 800-year-old church called St Margarets. This church is a beautiful landmark. Shops, pubs, and restaurants have grown around it, making the town centre a lively place.
As Stanford-le-Hope has grown, it has included nearby areas. These include Corringham, Mucking, and Fobbing. Fobbing was a key place where the Peasants' Revolt began.
The River Hope flows through the town. It is a small river that joins the Thames. The town's name comes from old Norman settlements. It means "Stanna's Ford over the River Hope."
There are several parks and nature reserves nearby. The Thurrock Thameside Nature Reserve is a great example. It has a visitor centre with views of the Thames. You can see both industrial areas and natural landscapes, like the Mucking Flats and Marshes.
In 2014, local people helped restore the war memorial. This was done to remember the First World War (1914–1919).
