The Sudetes are a large mountain range in Central Europe. They are also known as the Sudeten, which comes from their German name. In Czech, they are called Krkonošsko-jesenická subprovincie or Sudety, and in Polish, they are called Sudety.
These mountains are the highest part of the Bohemian Massif. They stretch about 300 kilometers (186 miles) from Dresden in Germany all the way to the Ostrava Basin in the Czech Republic. The Sudetes are a type of mountain range called a Mittelgebirge, which means they are medium-height mountains. However, some parts look like very high mountains. Their flat tops and gentle slopes make them seem more like mountains in Northern Europe than the Alps.
