Suvi Maria Riggs (born 26 March 1988), also known by her maiden name Koponen, is a Finnish fashion model. She became famous after winning a TV show called Mallikoulu ("Model School") in Finland in 2005.
Suvi has worked for many well-known fashion designers. These include Anna Sui, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, and Calvin Klein. She has also appeared in famous fashion magazines like the French and American versions of Vogue. In March 2008, she was on the cover of Vogue Portugal.
Suvi's Modeling Journey
In 2005, Suvi won the TV show Mallikoulu. This win helped her get a modeling contract with a big international agency called Women. She started walking in major fashion shows in late 2006. However, she really became a star in the next season. She walked only for famous brands like Prada and Miu Miu.
A person named Paul Rowland, who started Supreme agency, met Suvi in New York City. He created a special hairstyle for her. He told Miuccia Prada, a famous designer, that he had found a new star. Suvi also appeared on the cover of Finnish magazine Pàp in 2005 and 2006. She was also on the cover of Amica magazine in Germany. After 2006, Suvi Koponen became known all over the world.
Becoming a Top Model
In 2007, Suvi was featured in five fashion stories for different Vogue magazines. These included the French, British, Italian, and American editions. She became the main model for the Balenciaga fall clothing line. She also took over from Natalia Vodianova as the face of the Calvin Klein collection.
In February 2007, she walked the runways for many top brands. These included Chanel, Hermès, Jil Sander, and Nina Ricci. She was on the cover of French Vogue Beaute. Suvi also opened fashion shows for Jill Stuart, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Marni. She closed the Nina Ricci show in Paris.
In April 2007, she was on the cover of Dazed & Confused magazine. In the fall of 2007, she became the face of the Blumarine spring ad campaign. She also starred in the Mulberry fall ad campaign. In the fall of 2008, Suvi was again the face of Calvin Klein in a campaign.
In August 2007, New York Magazine listed the "Top Ten Models to Watch This Fashion Week." Suvi Koponen was ranked third on this list. In September 2007, British Vogue named her one of their "Head Girls." This meant she was a model to watch out for in the upcoming fashion season.
She opened and closed many fashion shows in New York and Milan. She worked with designers like Reem Acra, Carolina Herrera, Fendi, and Roberto Cavalli.
Suvi is signed with several modeling agencies around the world. These include Next in New York, Women Model Management in Milan and Paris, and Premier in London.
In February 2008, a TV show on MTV3 in Finland featured a documentary about her. Suvi said that she doesn't worry about her weight. She believes it's more important to be happy and feel good. She said that if her body changes, people have to accept it, or she would quit modeling. Suvi also became the face of Blumarine again.
Life Outside Modeling
It really annoys me that people think every model has an eating disorder, and every model is dumb. Most of the girls are naturally skinny, like me. I don't have to watch what I eat. I love eating! Especially ice-cream and salty snacks.
Suvi has a tattoo of the number "5" on her back. This number is special to her because it's how many people are in her family. It's also her lucky number. She also has the word "imported" tattooed under her chest. She has three lines on her left wrist. On her right hand, she has "Cat" tattooed, which is for her model friend, Catherine McNeil.
To get ready for fashion week, Suvi said she sleeps a lot. She thinks it's very important to get enough rest. She also prepares herself mentally. She tells herself, "Suvi, it's only a month. You'll be ok." This helps her a lot.
