What is Swanbank Like?
Swanbank is mainly used for industrial activities. This includes the Swanbank Power Station, which is a big facility that creates electricity.
There are also mines in the area, both old ones and some that might still be used. These mines are important for getting resources like coal from the ground.
In the south-west part of Swanbank, the land is used for grazing. This means animals like cattle or sheep eat the natural plants there.
Railways in Swanbank
The Swanbank railway line runs through the area. It comes from the north, near Blackstone, and ends in two special tracks called balloon loops. A balloon loop is a circular track that allows trains to turn around without needing to unhook and rehook the engine.

A Look at Swanbank's History
Swanbank was named by an early settler called James Foote. He named it after his wife's hometown, which was also called Swanbank, in Scotland. Before this, the area had other names like Logan Lagoon and Josey's Lagoon.
The Box Flat Mine
Swanbank was once home to the Box Flat Mine. In 1972, a serious event happened at the mine, which led to its closure. This event was a very sad time for the community.
Swanbank's Heritage and Trains
Today, the Swanbank railway station is used by a group dedicated to preserving railway history. This group is called the Queensland pioneer steam railway.
They offer fun steam train rides around the Swanbank rail loop. This loop was originally built to help transport coal to the Swanbank Power Station. Now, it's a great way to experience history!
