Swanville is a small city located in Morrison County, Minnesota, in the United States. A tiny part of the city also reaches into Todd County. In 2020, about 326 people lived there.

History of Swanville

Swanville was officially planned and mapped out in 1882. It got its name from the nearby Swan River. A post office, where people send and receive mail, started operating in Swanville in 1883. The city became an official, self-governing community in 1893.

Geography and Location

Swanville is mainly in the western part of Morrison County. A small section of the city's boundary extends southwest into Todd County. The city is surrounded by Swanville Township to the north, east, and south. To the west, it borders Burnhamville Township.

Main Routes and Nearby Cities

Minnesota State Highway 28 is an important road that runs through the western side of Swanville. This highway connects Swanville to other places. If you travel northeast on Highway 28 for about 17 miles, you will reach Little Falls. Little Falls is the main city and administrative center for Morrison County. If you go southwest for about 22 miles, you will arrive at Sauk Centre.

Land and Water

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Swanville covers a total area of about 0.53 square miles (1.36 square kilometers). All of this area is land; there are no large bodies of water within the city limits. The Swan River flows just west of Swanville. This river travels north and then east, eventually joining the Mississippi River south of Little Falls.
