History of Talent

Talent was founded by A. P. Tallent. He moved to Oregon in the 1870s. In the 1880s, he planned out the city. He wanted to call it Wagner. However, postal officials chose the name Talent, removing one "L" from his last name. The post office opened in 1883. Before this, the area was known as Eden District or Wagner Creek.

Many homes and businesses were lost. By September 18, about 2,800 buildings were destroyed. Officials said the fire was started by a person. A man was arrested for starting a separate fire in Phoenix that joined the Almeda Drive Fire.
