Taskin Ahmed Tazim (Bengali: তাসকিন আহমেদ তাজিম) is a famous Bangladeshi cricketer born on April 3, 1995. He is known for his fast bowling with his right arm and also bats left-handed. Taskin plays for Dhaka Metropolis in different types of cricket matches, like first-class and List A cricket. He also plays for the Rangpur Rangers team in the Bangladesh Premier League. Taskin Ahmed made history by being the first Bangladeshi cricketer to take 5 wickets in his very first ODI match!

Taskin's Cricket Journey: Early Days & Club Teams

Taskin started playing cricket at the Abahani playground on January 10, 2007. After playing for teams like the Under-15 and Under-17, he was chosen to play for the Bangladesh national under-19 cricket team. His first big match in first-class cricket was in October 2011 for Dhaka Metropolis.

Shining in Youth Cricket

In the 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup, Taskin was the best wicket-taker for Bangladesh, getting 11 wickets. He showed his talent again in his second Twenty20 match during the BPL 2. Playing for the Chittagong Kings, he was named "man of the match" for taking 4 wickets for 31 runs in a semi-final game. This performance, where he took 8 wickets in 4 matches, was a big moment in his career.

Playing in the Bangladesh Premier League

In BPL 3, Taskin played for the Chittagong Vikings. He became one of the most searched people from Bangladesh on Google in 2015, showing how popular he was.

In October 2018, Taskin joined the Sylhet Sixers team for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League. He was their top wicket-taker, getting 22 wickets in 12 matches. Later, in November 2019, he was chosen to play for the Rangpur Rangers in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League.

Taskin also played for the Colombo Stars in the 2021 Lanka Premier League in November 2021. More recently, on January 2, 2025, he took 7 wickets for Durbar Rajshahi against Dhaka Capitals in the Bangladesh Premier League 2025. His 7 wickets for 19 runs is the third-best bowling performance ever in a T20 game! On January 20, he became the captain of Durbar Rajshahi. He is also the second bowler to reach 100 wickets in the BPL, after Shakib Al Hasan.

Taskin's International Cricket Career

Taskin's chance to play for the national team came when another player, Mashrafe, was injured.

Making His Mark: 2014-2015

He played his first T20 International (T20I) match on April 1, 2014. In this game, he took the wicket of famous player Glenn Maxwell. On June 17, 2014, he took 5 wickets against India in his first One Day International (ODI) match. This made him the first Bangladeshi bowler to achieve this amazing feat on debut.

Taskin was chosen for Bangladesh's team in the 2015 Cricket World Cup because he played so well in 2014. In the World Cup, he took important wickets against Afghanistan, Scotland, and England, helping Bangladesh reach the quarter-finals. In the quarter-final against India, he took three more wickets. He was Bangladesh's top wicket-taker in that World Cup. His special "Chest-bump" celebration with Mashrafe after taking a wicket became a memorable moment of the tournament.

Important Contributions: 2015-2016

Taskin played a key role when Bangladesh won all their matches against Pakistan in April 2015 and also when they won against India in June 2015.

A Setback and a Comeback: 2016-2018

In 2016, Taskin was part of Bangladesh's team for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20. However, he was temporarily stopped from bowling in international matches because his bowling action was found to be against the rules. He worked hard to fix it.

Taskin made his Test debut for Bangladesh against New Zealand on January 12, 2017. He got his first Test wicket by dismissing Kane Williamson.

Big Achievements: 2021-2022

In June 2021, Taskin was selected for Bangladesh's team for their tour to Zimbabwe. In the Test match against Zimbabwe, he scored 75 runs, which was his first half-century in Test cricket. He and Mahmudullah made a huge partnership of 191 runs, which was the second-highest partnership for the ninth wicket in Test cricket history! Taskin's 75 runs were also the highest score by a Bangladeshi batsman batting at number 10 in an away match.

In September 2021, he was chosen for Bangladesh's team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, he became the top wicket-taker for Bangladesh, getting 8 wickets in 5 matches.

Recent Performances: 2023-2025

In March 2023, during a T20 match against Ireland, Taskin took 4 wickets for only 16 runs. This was his best bowling performance in T20 Internationals. In September 2023, he was picked for Bangladesh's team for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

In May 2024, he was named in Bangladesh's team for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Looking ahead, on January 12, 2025, he was also selected for Bangladesh's team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Taskin's Bowling Speed

Taskin is one of the fastest bowlers Bangladesh has ever had. During the 2022 T20 World Cup, he bowled a ball at an incredible speed of 149.56 kilometers per hour (about 93 miles per hour) to De Cock. Before him, Mashrafe Mortaza held the record for the fastest delivery by a Bangladeshi, at 148 km/h. Taskin can regularly bowl around 140 km/h (about 87 mph).

However, his record was later broken by Nahid Rana, who bowled at 152 km/h against Pakistan during Bangladesh's tour in 2024.

Taskin's Personal Life

Taskin is the son of Abdur Rashid and Sabina Yasmin. He finished his schooling at King Khaled Institute and Stamford College. He then went on to study at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).

In November 2017, Taskin married his childhood friend, Sayeda Rabeya Nayeem. They had their first child, a son named Tashfeen Ahmed Rihan, on September 30, 2018.
