Teairra Marí Thomas (born December 2, 1987) is an American artist. She is a rapper, singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. Teairra Marí is from Detroit, Michigan. When she was 16, she signed with Def Jam Recordings. She also joined Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records. Her first album, Roc-A-Fella Records Presents Teairra Marí, came out in 2005. It reached number five on the Billboard 200 music chart. The song "Make Her Feel Good" from the album was a top 40 hit.

In 2008, she released the song "Hunt 4 U" with Pleasure P. She planned a second album called At That Point. However, many songs from it were leaked online. So, the album was not officially released. In 2010, she acted in the movie Lottery Ticket. She starred alongside rappers Bow Wow and Ice Cube.

Teairra Marí's Music Journey

Early Life and Starting Out

Teairra Marí was born in Detroit. She sang in church when she was young. She was inspired by Motown artists. She also looked up to singers like Aaliyah, Monica, and Brandy Norwood. Her grandmother sang backup for the famous singer Aretha Franklin. Teairra Marí went to the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts.

A music executive named Antonio "L.A." Reid heard her sing live. He was very impressed and offered her a music contract. Shakir Stewart, a vice president at Island Def Jam Music Group, said she was a star. He mentioned that she amazed everyone during her audition.

First Album Success (2004–2006)

Teairra Marí worked with Jay-Z on her first big project. Jay-Z had just become president of Def Jam Records. They created the song "Make Her Feel Good" with producer Sean Garrett. This song was the first single from her debut album. It reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also hit number 9 on the R&B charts. The music video was played a lot on BET.

Her second single was "No Daddy". Its music video was very popular on MTV. The video stayed on the show Total Request Live for 16 days. It even reached number four. Her third song, "Phone Booth", was only sent to radio stations. It did not get much attention because it had no video or promotion. Teairra Marí also appeared in other music videos. New Beginnings and Mixtapes (2007–2010)

In 2008, Teairra Marí signed a deal with Violator. Later, she joined Fo' Reel Entertainment with Cudda Love. She began working on a new album called At That Point. Producers like Rico Love and The Runners helped her. The album was planned to feature artists like Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, and Rick Ross.

On January 12, 2009, she released a music video for "Hunt 4 U". It featured Pleasure P. The second single from At That Point was "Cause a Scene" with Flo Rida. The third single, "Sponsor", featured Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy. It was released digitally on February 2, 2010. The music video for "Sponsor" came out on March 8, 2010. The album At That Point was supposed to be released in summer 2010. However, too many songs were leaked online. So, she decided to record new songs for a different album.

In late 2009, Teairra Marí released her first mixtape, Don't Make Me Cause a Scene. It included her singles and new songs like "Diamonds" with Kanye West. She also remixed popular songs by other artists. Her second mixtape, Point of No Return, came out on August 7, 2010. This mixtape had leaked songs and new tracks. She made music videos for some of the songs she covered.

On August 17, 2010, she released Sincerely Yours. This was a digital EP available on iTunes. It featured "Sponsor" and new songs like "Body" and "Stranger". She also released music videos for "Body" and "Stranger". She performed "Body" on the Mo'Nique show.

Her third mixtape, The Night Before X-MAS, was released on Christmas Eve 2010. It had remixes and covers of songs by artists like Kanye West and Chris Brown. She also made videos for "U Know What It Is" and "Stay".

New Music and Label (2011–2012)

In March 2011, Teairra Marí started working on new music with Rico Love. He was the main producer for her album. They recorded the first single, "That's All Me", which featured Rico Love. This song used a sample from an old song by Diddy. "That's All Me" was also on DJ T. Neal's album. Teairra Marí performed the song live in Hollywood. She later announced that she had left Warner Bros. and signed with Rico Love's label, Division1. She had a lot of extra songs from her album. So, she released a fourth mixtape called Now or Never on May 30, 2011.

"U Did That" became the new first single from her second album. Rico Love wrote and produced it. Teairra Marí said the song would be sent to radio stations in January 2012. She shared a video of herself and Rico Love in the studio. She said they had amazing chemistry when making music. The song was later remixed with rapper 2 Chainz. A music video for the remix was also filmed. Teairra Marí described her album's sound as "new jack swing" and "90s R&B" with a modern beat.

Recent Music (2014–Present)

In December 2014, Teairra Marí released a song called "Deserve". It was produced by Hitmaka. In 2019, she released an EP titled "Rehab". On January 12, 2024, she released a new single called "Take Me Out".

Acting Roles

Teairra Marí has also had a career in acting. In 2009, she appeared in The Magnificent Cooly-T. In 2010, she was in Lottery Ticket with Bow Wow. In 2013, she starred in "The Dempsey Sisters" on the UP TV network. She acted alongside Lynn Whitfield and Clifton Powell.

Reality Television Appearances
