How to Play Temple Run
In Temple Run, you control a main character named Guy Dangerous. He and other explorers, like Scarlett Fox and Barry Bones, have taken a special statue from an ancient temple. Now, scary monkeys are chasing them! Your main goal is to help your character run as far as possible without getting caught.
The game starts at the temple, and there's no finish line. You just keep running! Along the way, you need to avoid different things in your path, collect coins, and turn corners. To make your character jump over obstacles, you swipe your finger forward on the screen. To make them duck under things, you swipe your finger backward. To turn a corner, you swipe your finger to the right or left. You also need to tilt your device to the right or left to make your character run on the correct side of the path.
Collecting Coins
You will find coins scattered along the path as you run. Most of these coins look like yellow diamonds. However, some coins are worth more points! Red diamonds are worth two points, and blue diamonds are worth three points. You can earn these coins during gameplay. You can then use them to unlock new goals or buy special items in the game's store.
Making the Game
The game Temple Run was created by a husband-and-wife team, Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova. They also worked with an artist named Kiril Tchangov. This team also made another game called Harbor Master.
When Temple Run first came out, it cost 99 cents. But soon after, they decided to make it free to download. They then allowed players to buy coins inside the game. This change made the game earn five times more money! Both Shepherd and Luckyanova designed and programmed the game, while Tchangov created all the artwork and pictures.
Fun Facts About Temple Run
- It took about four months to create Temple Run from start to finish.
- The creators got the idea from an older game they made called Max Adventure, but they made the controls much simpler for Temple Run.
- The artist, Kiril Tchangov, likes to put skulls in his game designs. That's why the monkeys chasing you in Temple Run wear skull masks!
- Temple Run was released around the same time the iPhone 4S came out in October 2011.
- The creators did not expect Temple Run to become so popular so quickly. They said, "We were just a small team that loved to make games, working out of the bedroom in our apartment and doing what we loved."
- Imangi Studios has made several other games since then. These include Temple Run 2, Temple Run: Brave (which was connected to the Pixar movie Brave), Temple Run: Oz (connected to the movie Oz the Great and Powerful), and Temple Run VR (for the Samsung Gear VR virtual reality headset).
- The newer Temple Run games have more exciting features. These include zip-lines, minecarts, archer's targets, hot air balloons, and changing environments as you run.
