How The Daily Wire Started and Grew

The idea for The Daily Wire came from Ben Shapiro and Jeremy Boreing. They both used to work for a news website called TruthRevolt. After getting money from brothers Dan and Farris Wilks, The Daily Wire officially started in 2015. Farris Wilks manages the company that publishes The Daily Wire.
The company first started in Los Angeles, California. It mainly earned money from advertisements. In September 2020, Ben Shapiro announced that The Daily Wire would move its main office to Nashville, Tennessee.
Becoming Popular on Social Media
The Daily Wire quickly became one of the most popular news sites on Facebook. In 2018, a company called NewsWhip said The Daily Wire was the top right-wing publisher on Facebook. By March 2019, it was the sixth most popular English-language publisher on Facebook. It also had many articles among Facebook's top stories. In 2021, The Daily Wire's stories received more likes, shares, and comments on Facebook than any other news publisher.
In April 2019, The Ben Shapiro Show was ranked the second most listened-to podcast in the U.S. This was just behind The Daily.
Changes and New Projects
In June 2020, Ben Shapiro stepped down as the main editor. He became an "editor emeritus," which means he still has an important role but not the day-to-day duties. John Bickley became the new editor-in-chief.
In January 2021, Shapiro announced that The Daily Wire was starting a studio for TV and films. The goal was to create content that did not promote certain political ideas. Their first original movie, Shut In, came out in 2022.
In September 2021, Shapiro and Boreing said The Daily Wire would not follow a U.S. government rule about certain health requirements for companies. The company later filed a lawsuit. The Supreme Court eventually decided that the rule was not lawful.
In 2021, The Daily Wire also announced a new book publishing part called DW Books. It planned to release books by authors like Shapiro and Candace Owens. This was part of a trend where conservative authors started their own publishing channels.
Growth and New Ventures
By early 2022, The Daily Wire's yearly earnings were over $100 million. It had 150 employees. In March 2022, The Daily Wire announced it would spend at least $100 million on children's entertainment. This was a response to Disney's stance on a Florida law.
In June 2022, The Daily Wire launched DailyWire+. This is a video on demand platform. It features many of The Daily Wire's podcasts and video shows. By November 2022, the company had over 1,000,000 paid subscribers.
In October 2023, on the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney starting his company, Jeremy Boreing announced a kids' content service called Bentkey. This service launched on the same day. It includes some of the children's content they had planned, like Chip Chilla. Bentkey's first full-length movie was announced as a live-action version of Snow White, called Snow White and the Evil Queen.
In March 2025, Jeremy Boreing stepped down as co-CEO. In May 2025, Mike Richards was announced as the next president of The Daily Wire.
Podcasts and Radio Shows
The Daily Wire creates several podcasts. These include The Ben Shapiro Show, The Michael Knowles Show, The Matt Walsh Show, and The Andrew Klavan Show.
The The Ben Shapiro Show became even more popular in April 2018. A company called Westwood One started sharing the podcast with radio stations. By March 2019, the show was on over 200 radio stations.
In 2020, The Daily Wire gained all the content from PragerU, another media organization.
In November 2020, Candace Owens, a commentator, announced she would join The Daily Wire. Her show, Candace, started on March 19, 2021. It features weekly episodes filmed in front of a live audience. Guests have included former president Donald Trump.
In October 2021, The Daily Wire hired Allison Williams. She had left ESPN because of a company rule about health requirements. The Daily Wire promoted her hiring as "sports without the woke." Williams later returned to sports reporting with Fox Sports in August 2022. In February 2022, The Daily Wire started a sports show called Crain & Company.
In March 2022, they launched a YouTube channel called The Comments Section with Brett Cooper. After Cooper left the company in December 2024, Reagan Rohrbach became the new host.
