Thisara Perera (born 3 April 1989) is a famous former cricket player from Sri Lanka. He played for the national team in all types of cricket games. He was also the captain for some of the shorter games.
Thisara is known as an all-rounder. This means he is good at both batting and bowling. He bats left-handed and can hit the ball very far, especially at the end of a game. He bowls right-arm medium-fast.
He was a key player when Sri Lanka won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 tournament. He even hit the winning boundary in the final game! In 2016, he made history by taking a hat-trick in both One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. Only one other player had done this before him.
People in Australia sometimes call him "Panda." This nickname was given to him by another cricketer, George Bailey. However, Thisara prefers to be called "TP." In 2021, Thisara became the first Sri Lankan to hit six sixes in a single over during a domestic game.
On 3 May 2021, Thisara Perera announced that he was retiring from playing international cricket. However, he said he would keep playing cricket for local teams and in special leagues around the world.

Leading the Team
In October 2017, Thisara Perera was named captain for Sri Lanka's T20I series against Pakistan. This happened because the regular captain decided not to play due to security concerns.
Later, in November 2017, Thisara was also made captain for the ODI and T20I matches against India. This change happened because the team had not been playing well under the previous captain.
His first ODI as captain was against India. Sri Lanka won that match comfortably by 7 wickets. This win ended Sri Lanka's streak of 12 ODI losses. However, Sri Lanka lost the ODI series 1–2 and the T20I series 0–3.
After Being Captain

He hit 13 sixes in this innings, which was a new record for Sri Lanka. Even though Sri Lanka lost the match, Thisara was named "man of the match" for his incredible performance.
In April 2019, he was chosen for Sri Lanka's team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) said he was a key player for Sri Lanka in the tournament.
