Thomson was a small city in Carlton County, Minnesota, in the United States. It was located right next to the Saint Louis River. In 2010, about 159 people lived there.
On November 5, 2013, people in Thomson voted to join with the nearby city of Carlton. Almost everyone (95%) agreed to this change.
Thomson is very close to Jay Cooke State Park, which is a great place for outdoor activities. It is also on the Willard Munger State Trail, a popular path for biking and walking.
The main roads in the area are Minnesota Highway 210 and Dalles Avenue. Thomson is about seven miles southeast of Cloquet and 18 miles southwest of Duluth.

History of Thomson
Thomson was started in 1870. It was named after David Thompson, who was a famous Canadian explorer and surveyor. A post office opened in Thomson in 1870, but it closed down in 1955.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of Thomson covered a total area of about 2.23 square miles (5.78 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.87 square miles (4.84 square kilometers), was land. The rest, about 0.36 square miles (0.93 square kilometers), was water.
