Timo Hildebrand's Club Career
Timo Hildebrand started his football journey at a small club called FV Hofheim/Ried. In 1994, he joined the youth team of VfB Stuttgart, a much bigger club.
Playing for VfB Stuttgart
In the 1999–2000 season, Timo played in six Bundesliga matches for Stuttgart. From the summer of 2000, he became the team's main goalkeeper. He played a big part in Stuttgart's success, especially with the team known as "Stuttgart's young wild ones" under coach Felix Magath.
He played many matches in different competitions, including the UEFA Cup and UEFA Intertoto Cup. In 2003, VfB Stuttgart finished second in the Bundesliga. The next season, they even made it past the group stage in the UEFA Champions League before losing to Chelsea FC.
Timo was also very important when Stuttgart won the Bundesliga title in the 2006–07 season. He was a strong leader for new young players like Serdar Tasci and Mario Gómez. Stuttgart had one of the best defenses that season. This was his biggest success in Germany, and it was also his last season with Stuttgart. He decided not to extend his contract in December 2006.
Moving to Valencia
On July 3, 2007, Timo Hildebrand joined the Spanish club Valencia for free. He became the team's first-choice goalkeeper for most of the 2007–08 season. During this time, he helped Valencia win the Copa del Rey trophy.
However, after a new manager, Unai Emery, arrived, Timo lost his spot. The new manager preferred another goalkeeper. Timo left Valencia on December 4, 2008.
Time at Hoffenheim

On December 10, 2008, Hildebrand signed with the Bundesliga team 1899 Hoffenheim. He played his first game for them on January 31, 2009. He played 14 matches in the 2008–09 season and 32 matches in the 2009–10 season. He left Hoffenheim in the summer of 2010.
Playing for Sporting CP
Timo signed a one-year deal with the Portuguese club Sporting CP. He played his first game for them on October 16, 2010, in a Portuguese cup match. After leaving Sporting, he had a trial with Manchester City but did not sign with them.
Joining Schalke 04
Timo Hildebrand joined Schalke 04 during the 2011–12 Bundesliga season. This happened after their main goalkeeper got injured.
Final Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
On September 25, 2014, Hildebrand signed with Eintracht Frankfurt. He joined them because their first-choice goalkeeper, Kevin Trapp, had a serious injury. He played three matches for Eintracht Frankfurt. These were his last top-level matches, bringing his total Bundesliga appearances to over 300.
Timo Hildebrand's International Career
Timo Hildebrand played 18 matches for the German Under-21 team. He made his first full international appearance for the German national team on April 28, 2004. This was in a friendly game against Romania. He came on as a substitute for Oliver Kahn.
Timo was chosen for three big tournaments for Germany: Euro 2004, the 2005 Confederations Cup, and the 2006 World Cup. He was usually the third-choice goalkeeper behind Jens Lehmann and Oliver Kahn. He played his first competitive international match at the 2005 Confederations Cup against Argentina.
He was the only player in the 2006 World Cup squad who did not play in any games. Germany finished third in that tournament, which was held in their home country.
After Oliver Kahn retired from international football in 2006, Timo became Germany's second-choice goalkeeper. He was the natural backup for Jens Lehmann during the Euro 2008 qualification matches. However, the coach, Joachim Löw, surprisingly left Timo out of the final squad for the tournament. Instead, he picked Robert Enke and René Adler. Even though the coach said Timo was important and might return, he never played for Germany again after being left out of the Euro 2008 squad.
