Timo Hildebrand (born 5 April 1979) is a German former professional footballer. He played as a goalkeeper.

Hildebrand holds a special record in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league. He kept a clean sheet (meaning no goals were scored against him) for 884 minutes in a row. This happened during the 2003–04 season.

Club Football Journey

Playing for VfB Stuttgart

Timo Hildebrand started his football journey at a small club called FV Hofheim/Ried. In 1994, he joined the youth team of VfB Stuttgart.

By the 1999–2000 season, Hildebrand played in six Bundesliga matches. From the summer of 2000, he became Stuttgart's main goalkeeper. He was a big part of Stuttgart's success, especially with the team known as "Stuttgart's young wild ones" under coach Felix Magath.

In 2003, VfB Stuttgart finished second in the Bundesliga. This was a great achievement for the team. Hildebrand also played in the Champions League group stage that season.

He played a very important role when Stuttgart won the 2006–07 Bundesliga title. This was his biggest success in Germany. It was also his last season with Stuttgart, as he decided not to extend his contract.

Moving to Valencia

On 3 July 2007, Hildebrand joined the Spanish club Valencia for free. He was seen as a replacement for their long-time goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares. He made his first appearance for Valencia on 29 August in a UEFA Champions League qualification match.

Hildebrand was Valencia's main goalkeeper for most of the 2007–08 season. During this time, he helped the team win the Copa del Rey trophy. However, after a new manager, Unai Emery, took over, Hildebrand lost his spot. He left Valencia on 4 December 2008.

Time at Hoffenheim

On 10 December 2008, Hildebrand signed with the Bundesliga team 1899 Hoffenheim. He played his first Bundesliga game for Hoffenheim on 31 January 2009. He stayed with Hoffenheim until the summer of 2010.

Playing for Sporting and Schalke 04

Hildebrand signed a one-year deal with the Portuguese club Sporting CP. He played his first game for them on 16 October 2010 in a cup match. After leaving Sporting, he tried out for Manchester City but did not sign with them.

Later, Hildebrand joined Schalke 04 during the 2011–12 Bundesliga season. This happened after their main goalkeeper got injured. He played for Schalke until 2014.

Final Club: Eintracht Frankfurt

On 25 September 2014, Hildebrand signed with Eintracht Frankfurt. He joined them because their first-choice goalkeeper had a serious injury. He played three matches for Eintracht Frankfurt. These were his last games in Germany's top league, bringing his total Bundesliga appearances to over 300.

Playing for Germany

Timo Hildebrand played 18 games for the German Under-21 team. He made his first appearance for the main German national team on 28 April 2004. This was in a friendly game against Romania.

Hildebrand was chosen for three big tournaments for Germany. These were Euro 2004, the 2005 Confederations Cup, and the 2006 World Cup. He was usually the third-choice goalkeeper behind Jens Lehmann and Oliver Kahn.

He played his first competitive international match at the 2005 Confederations Cup against Argentina. Germany finished third at the 2006 World Cup, which was held in their home country. Hildebrand was the only player in the squad who did not play in any matches during that tournament.

After Oliver Kahn stopped playing for the national team in 2006, Hildebrand became Germany's second-choice goalkeeper. He was expected to replace Jens Lehmann. However, the coach, Joachim Löw, surprisingly left Hildebrand out of the squad for Euro 2008. He never played for Germany again after this.
