Tottori's History
Before the year 1868, Japan had a different way of dividing its land. Tottori Prefecture used to be two older areas called Hōki and Inaba. These old provinces changed into the prefecture we know today during the Meiji Restoration. The Meiji Restoration was a big change in Japan's history when the emperor got more power and the country started to modernize.

Tottori's Borders
Tottori shares its land borders with several other prefectures:
- To the east, it meets Hyōgo Prefecture.

- To the west, it connects with Shimane Prefecture.
