Trainer is a small town, called a borough, located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,828 people lived there. The borough is named after David Trainer, who was a very successful textile maker.

History of Trainer Borough

Trainer got its name from David Trainer Sr., who owned the Linwood Mills. This area was once part of a larger place called Lower Chichester Township. Trainer officially became its own borough in the year 1919.

Geography and Location

Trainer is found in the southern part of Delaware County. It sits right on the northwest bank of the Delaware River. This river is a big waterway that flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Neighboring Towns and Natural Features

Trainer shares its borders with several other towns. To the southwest, you'll find Marcus Hook. To the west is Linwood, which is still part of Lower Chichester Township. Upper Chichester Township is to the north. To the east is the city of Chester. Across the Delaware River to the south is Gloucester County, New Jersey.

A stream called Stoney Creek flows through Trainer. It eventually empties its water into the Delaware River. The total area of Trainer is about 3.6 square kilometers (1.38 square miles). Most of this area is land, but about 22.94% is water.

U.S. Route 13 is a main highway that runs through the middle of Trainer. It goes northeast for about 18 miles to Philadelphia, a big city. If you go southwest on US 13, you'll reach Wilmington, Delaware, which is about 10 miles away.

Another important road, Pennsylvania Route 291, starts its journey in Trainer at the junction with US 13. Also, U.S. Route 13 Business ends at the same spot where US 13 and PA 291 meet in Trainer. As of 2018, Trainer had about 8.18 miles of public roads.

Industry and Economy

The area along the Delaware River in Trainer is very industrial. This means there are many factories and businesses. It's part of the larger Port of Chester, which is a busy place for ships to load and unload goods.

Oil Refinery in Trainer

A railway line called the Stoney Creek Secondary has a rail yard north of the creek. This helps move goods around. One of the biggest businesses in Trainer is the Trainer Refinery. This is an oil refinery owned by Delta Air Lines. An oil refinery is a factory that takes crude oil and turns it into useful products like gasoline and jet fuel.
