Tranås Municipality (Tranås kommun) is a special area in Jönköping County, southern Sweden. It is like a local government area. The main town and center of this municipality is Tranås.
The town of Tranås started as a "market town" (a place where people could trade goods) in 1882. It became a full "city" in 1919. Later, in 1951, the nearby rural area called Säby joined Tranås. Then, in 1967, Linderås also became part of Tranås. In 1971, all the different types of local areas in Sweden became "municipalities" (like a single type of local government), and Tranås became one of these.
Tranås was once famous for making things from fur. However, this industry is not very active there anymore.
