Troy is a small community in Vermont, United States. It is known as an "unincorporated village" and a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a recognized area for counting people. However, it does not have its own separate local government. Instead, it is part of the larger town of Troy in Orleans County.
In 2020, the population of Troy village was 261 people. The entire town of Troy had a population of 1,722 people.
Where is Troy Village?
Troy village is located in the northwestern part of Orleans County. It sits in the west-central area of the town of Troy. The western edge of the village touches the border of the town of Westfield.
Roads and Travel
Two important roads meet right in the middle of Troy village. These are Vermont Route 100 and Vermont Route 101.
- Route 100 goes northeast for about 7 miles (11 km). It ends at Route 105 in Newport Center.
- Route 100 also goes south for about 8 miles (13 km) to Lowell.
- Route 101 heads north for about 6 miles (10 km). It leads to North Troy, which is very close to the Canadian border.
The Missisquoi River
Troy village is nestled in the valley of the Missisquoi River. This river flows northwards along the eastern side of the village. The Missisquoi River continues its journey north into Quebec, Canada.
After entering Quebec, the river turns west. It then passes the northern end of the Green Mountains. Finally, it re-enters Vermont and continues flowing until it reaches Lake Champlain.
