Tyler Shaan Adams (born February 14, 1999) is an American professional soccer player. He plays as a midfielder for Bournemouth in England. Tyler also plays for the United States national team. He can play in different positions, like a full-back or winger.
Tyler started his career at the New York Red Bulls academy. He became a professional player with New York Red Bulls II when he was just sixteen. Later, he joined the main New York Red Bulls team. In 2019, Tyler moved to RB Leipzig in Germany. There, he helped the team win the 2021–22 DFB-Pokal cup. In 2022, he joined Leeds United. After one season, he moved to Bournemouth in 2023.
Tyler has played for the United States at many youth levels. He made his debut for the senior national team in 2017. He was the captain for the U.S. team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In 2022, he was named the U.S. Soccer Player of the Year.

Club Career Highlights
Early Years and Youth Teams
Tyler Adams joined the Red Bulls Academy in 2012. He played for their younger teams, including the under-13, under-14, and under-16 squads. This was before he became a professional player.
Playing for New York Red Bulls II
On March 19, 2015, Tyler signed with New York Red Bulls II. This is the reserve team for the New York Red Bulls. He played his first game for them on April 4, 2015. They won 4–1 against Toronto FC II, which was the team's first-ever win. Tyler played regularly for NYRB II in 2016. He helped them win the 2016 USL Cup Final with a 5–1 victory.
Joining New York Red Bulls

Tyler made his first appearance for the main New York Red Bulls team on July 23, 2015. It was a friendly match against Premier League champions Chelsea. He scored a goal in that game, helping the Red Bulls win 4–2.
He signed his first senior team contract on November 3, 2015. Tyler made his MLS debut on April 13, 2016. He became a regular starter for the Red Bulls in the 2017 season. On August 15, 2017, Tyler helped New York win 3–2 against FC Cincinnati. This win sent New York to their first Open Cup final since 2003. He scored his first two MLS goals on September 27, 2017.
On March 13, 2018, Tyler scored the first goal in a 3–1 win over Club Tijuana. This helped the club reach the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time.
Moving to RB Leipzig
First Season in Germany
Tyler Adams joined RB Leipzig in Germany in January 2019. He was reunited with his former coach, Jesse Marsch. He played his first league game on January 27, winning 4–0. On February 16, Tyler made his first assist in the Bundesliga. He missed some games in April due to an injury. Before that, Leipzig had not lost a game when he was playing. On May 27, he started in the 2019 DFB-Pokal Final against Bayern Munich, but Leipzig lost the match.
Later Seasons and Champions League Goal
An injury kept Tyler out for the start of the 2019–20 season. He returned for the last game before the winter break. On March 10, he made his UEFA Champions League debut.
On August 13, 2020, Tyler scored the winning goal for Leipzig. They won 2–1 against Atlético Madrid. This goal helped the club reach the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever.
Time at Leeds United
Tyler joined Leeds United on July 6, 2022. He signed a five-year contract. He played his first league game for Leeds on August 6, helping them win 2–1. Tyler played well for several months in midfield. However, he injured his hamstring in March 2023 and had surgery. He did not play for the rest of that season.
Joining Bournemouth
On August 20, 2023, Tyler Adams signed with Premier League club Bournemouth. He signed a five-year deal with the team. In February 2025, Tyler was named Bournemouth's Player of the Month.
International Career
Tyler has played for the United States at different youth levels. These include the under-15, under-17, and under-20 teams. He played in all games at the 2015 CONCACAF Under-17 Championships. This helped the U.S. team qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
In May 2017, Tyler played every match for the United States at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea. This tournament was a big moment for him. On November 14, 2017, Tyler played his first game for the senior national team. He played the full 90 minutes in a 1–1 draw with Portugal. On September 11, 2018, Tyler scored a goal against Mexico in a friendly game.
In November 2022, Tyler was chosen as captain of the United States squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This made him the youngest captain at the tournament. He was also the youngest American captain since 1950. On January 13, 2023, he was voted the 2022 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year. This was after he led the Americans to the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Personal Life
Tyler Adams was born in Dutchess County, New York. His mother is Melissa Russo. Tyler often says his success comes from his mother's strong support. For example, his mom would drive over 150 miles round trip to the Red Bulls facility. She did this before Tyler was old enough to drive himself. Melissa raised Tyler mostly on her own when he was young. Later, Melissa married Daryl Sullivan, and his three sons became an important part of Tyler's life. Tyler's stepfather, Daryl Sullivan, coached soccer at high school and college levels. Tyler graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School. He also owns a local soccer club called "Hudson Valley Hammers" in the USL2 league. In January 2025, Tyler joined the ownership group of a new soccer club, Westchester SC, near his hometown.
