Union Peak is a tall and impressive mountain located in the U.S. state of Wyoming. It stands at 11,496 ft (3,504 m) high! This peak is special because it sits right on the Continental Divide. This means that any rain or snow that falls on one side of Union Peak will eventually flow to the Atlantic Ocean, while water on the other side will flow to the Pacific Ocean! Union Peak is found within two big national forests: Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forest. A place called Union Pass is also nearby, about 4.5 mi (7.2 km) northwest of the peak.

Staying Safe on Union Peak

When you explore mountains like Union Peak, it's important to be prepared and stay safe. The Wind River Range is a beautiful place, but it has some things to watch out for.

Wildlife Safety

You might see bears in the Wind River Range. It's important to know how to act around them. Always carry bear spray and know how to use it. Keep your food stored safely so bears aren't attracted to your campsite. Other small bugs can also be annoying, so bug spray is a good idea!

Weather and Terrain

The weather in the mountains can change quickly. Even in summer, nights can get very cold, so always bring warm clothes. Sometimes there can be wildfires, which can make the air smoky or close trails. Be sure to check the weather and fire conditions before you go.

When you are hiking on steep paths, it's very important to be careful. Some parts of the mountain can be rocky and slippery. Always watch your step to avoid falling. Also, be aware of rocks that might fall from above. Staying on marked trails and being aware of your surroundings helps keep everyone safe.
