Unterems used to be a small town, called a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the Valais canton, which is like a state. Unterems was part of the Leuk district.

On January 1, 2013, Unterems joined with another town, Turtmann. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Turtmann-Unterems.

A Glimpse into Unterems' Past

Unterems is quite old! People first wrote about it in the year 1270. Back then, it was called inferiorem hemesa. This shows that the area has been settled for a very long time.
