Professional Football Career

The San Francisco 49ers picked Vernon Davis as the sixth overall player in the 2006 NFL draft. He was the top tight end chosen that year. He impressed scouts at the NFL combine by running the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds.

San Francisco 49ers Highlights

In 2008, Davis had a moment that changed his career. After a play, he reacted poorly and was benched by his coach, Mike Singletary. This led to Singletary's famous "I want winners" speech. Davis took this to heart and changed his attitude.

The 2009 season was a breakout year for Davis. He tied the NFL record for most touchdown catches by a tight end in a single season with 13. He was chosen for his first Pro Bowl.

The 2011 season saw the 49ers reach the playoffs. In a thrilling game against the New Orleans Saints, Davis caught the game-winning touchdown from Alex Smith. This play is often called "Vernon Post." He set a record for most receiving yards by a tight end in a playoff game with 180 yards.

In 2012, Davis helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl XLVII. He had 104 receiving yards in the Super Bowl, but the 49ers lost a close game to the Baltimore Ravens.
