Wampum is a small town, also called a borough, located in the southern part of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2020, about 557 people lived there. It's considered part of the larger Pittsburgh area.

Where is Wampum?
Wampum is found at specific coordinates: 40°53′19″N 80°20′23″W / 40.88861°N 80.33972°W. It covers about 1 square mile (2.6 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
Two small streams, called Eckles Run and Wampum Run, flow through the borough. These streams eventually join the Beaver River.

Based on the census from 2000, there were 678 people living in Wampum. These people lived in 290 households, with 182 of them being families.

Learning in Wampum
Wampum used to have its own school district called Wampum Public Schools. This district operated from 1914 to 1962. Students from nearby Chewton and, after 1954, New Beaver also attended these schools.
In 1962, due to new state rules about combining school districts, Wampum Public Schools joined the Ellwood City Area School District. This means children in Wampum and Chewton now go to schools in the Ellwood City district.
However, children from New Beaver attend the Mohawk Area School District. This is because of an old agreement between their former school district and Wampum's.
The Wampum Indians Basketball Team
Wampum High School was famous for its basketball team, known as the Wampum Indians. Coach L Butler Hennon led the team from 1933 to 1961. The Wampum Indians had an amazing record, winning 521 games and losing only 126.
They won the sectional title 16 times. They also won three state championships in 1955, 1959, and 1960. The team even set a record by winning 82 games in a row between 1953 and 1959!
