History of Warrior Run
First Settlers
The first people to settle in Warrior Run were Elisha and Anna Blackman from Connecticut. They arrived in 1791 with their young children, Henry and Ebenezer. They cleared land and built a log cabin, which is a small house made from logs. For many years, their land was the only developed area in that part of the region.
Coal Mining Era
Coal mining was a very important industry in this area. In 1864, a company called the Warrior Run Mining Company started. They reopened an old mine and built a coal breaker, which was a building used to crush and sort coal. This breaker opened in 1867.
Around the same time, two railroad companies, the Lehigh Valley Railroad and the Nanticoke Branch of the Central Railroad of New Jersey, built train lines through the area. This made it easy to mine the coal, transport it, and sell it. Because of this, most people living in Warrior Run worked in or around the coal mines. However, in the 1900s, the coal industry in the region eventually stopped.
Becoming a Borough
The town of Warrior Run grew up on the land owned by the Warrior Run Mining Company. On January 25, 1895, Warrior Run officially became a borough. Charles Williams was chosen as the first burgess, which is like a mayor, on February 19.
A piece of land on Hanover Street was chosen for the town's first town hall. In 1995, the borough celebrated its 100th birthday!
