Wasim Sajjad Jan (Urdu: وسیم سجاد جان), born on March 30, 1941, is a Pakistani politician and lawyer. He is known for serving as the acting President of Pakistan two times. He also served as the Chairman of the Senate for many years.
Wasim Sajjad was born in Jalandhar, which was part of British India at the time. His father, Justice Sajjad Ahmad Jan, later became a judge in Pakistan's highest court, the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He also served as the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan.
Wasim Sajjad went to Army Burn Hall College for his early education. Later, he studied law at the Punjab University in Lahore. He then received a special scholarship called the Rhodes Scholarship. This allowed him to study at Oxford University in England. He earned advanced law degrees from Wadham College in 1967. In 1968, he became a qualified lawyer in England. When he returned to Pakistan, he became a lawyer there too. He also taught constitutional law at Punjab Law College from 1967 to 1977.

Political Journey
Wasim Sajjad began his political career in 1985. He was elected to the Senate as a member of the Muslim League. From September 1986 to December 1988, he served as the Minister for Law and Justice.
Chairman of the Senate
In December 1988, Wasim Sajjad was elected as the Chairman of the Senate. He held this important position until 1999. The Chairman of the Senate is a very senior role in Pakistan's government.
Acting President of Pakistan
During his time as Senate Chairman, Wasim Sajjad twice served as the acting President of Pakistan. This happened during general elections when the previous president had left office. He was acting president from July to November 1993 and again from December 1997 to January 1998.
Later Political Roles
In 1999, Wasim Sajjad joined a group of politicians who supported General Musharraf. He then became the Leader of the House in the Senate of Pakistan in 2003. He held this role until 2008. After that, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate from 2010 until 2012.
After Politics
After retiring from active politics, Wasim Sajjad continued to contribute to education and science. He has been serving as the Chairman of the Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology (FAST). He is also the chancellor of the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences.
Pakistan Football Federation
In 1989, Wasim Sajjad also served as the temporary president of the Pakistan Football Federation.
