Westlake's History and Beginnings
The city of Westlake began to be built after a company called Minto Communities bought a large area of land. They first bought 3,800 acres for $51 million, and later added 200 more acres. This land was developed into the city you see today.
Westlake officially became the 39th city in Palm Beach County in June 2016. Its name was partly inspired by Weston, a similar large community in nearby Broward County that was planned by a developer in the 1980s.
In November 2019, a medical center called Wellington Regional Medical Center bought 35 acres of land in Westlake. They plan to build a facility there to serve the community.
