The Whitewater River is a 62-mile long river in southern Kansas, United States. It is a tributary of the Walnut River. This means the Whitewater River flows into the Walnut River.
From there, its water joins the Arkansas River and eventually the huge Mississippi River. Sometimes, people also call this river Whitewater Creek.
Where Does the Whitewater River Flow?
The Whitewater River starts in southern Marion County, near a town called Peabody. It then flows south into Butler County.
As it travels, it passes by the towns of Potwin and Towanda. Finally, it meets the Walnut River near Augusta.
Branches of the Whitewater River
In Butler County, the Whitewater River gets water from two other smaller rivers:
- The West Branch Whitewater River starts in Harvey County. It flows southeast past the town of Whitewater.
- The East Branch Whitewater River begins near Burns in Marion County. It flows southwest to join the main river.
