Wildcat Mountain's History
Wildcat Mountain has a long and interesting history. It is home to one of the oldest ski-racing trails in the United States. This original trail was built way back in 1933. It was created by a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Wildcat was also the first ski area to have a special type of lift called a gondola lift. This gondola opened on January 25, 1958. Today, the old gondola has been replaced. Now, there is a fast high-speed chairlift called the "Wildcat Express." But don't worry, you can still see gondola cars! They are used during the summer and fall for scenic rides.
Wildcat Mountain gets a lot of snow! It is located near Mount Washington. This helps it get over 200 inches (5,100 mm) of natural snow each year. Because of all this snow, the ski and snowboard season lasts a long time. It usually starts in mid-November and goes all the way through early May.
In recent years, Wildcat has added more fun things to do in summer and fall. Besides the new fast chairlift, they also added a cool zip line. You can ride a triple chairlift to get to the zip line.
Wildcat Mountain and Attitash are now owned by a company called Vail Resorts. If you buy a ticket at one mountain, you can use it at both! You can also use the Epic Pass at Wildcat and all other ski areas owned by Vail Resorts.
