Willie Shaw's Early Life and Playing Days

Willie Shaw was born in Glenmora, Louisiana. After finishing high school at Lincoln High School in San Diego, he joined the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War and became a Sergeant.

From 1966 to 1968, Willie Shaw played football for the New Mexico Lobos. He was a talented cornerback and was recognized as an All-Western Athletic Conference player. He also received an All-All-America honorable mention.

After playing for New Mexico, Shaw transferred to San Diego State University. He didn't play football there, but he focused on his studies. He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1971. A few years later, in 1973, he completed his master's degree in physical education.
