Wim Jonk's Club Career
Early Days at Volendam
Wim Jonk was born in Volendam, Netherlands. He started playing football for an amateur club called RKAV Volendam. In 1986, he joined his hometown club, Volendam. He was a great scorer from the midfield position. He helped his team get promoted to the Eredivisie, which is the top football league in the Netherlands, in 1987.
Playing for Ajax
In 1988, Jonk moved to Ajax, one of the biggest clubs in the Netherlands. He quickly fit into the team and scored six goals in his first season. He helped Ajax reach the 1992 UEFA Cup Final. In that final, he scored a goal that helped Ajax beat Torino and win the cup.
Time at Inter Milan
In 1993, Wim Jonk signed a three-year deal with Inter Milan in Italy. His teammate from Ajax, Dennis Bergkamp, also joined Inter Milan at the same time. Jonk played 54 games for Inter Milan over two seasons and scored eight goals. He scored another goal in a UEFA Cup Final, helping Inter Milan win the 1994 final.
After Bergkamp left Inter Milan in 1995, Jonk felt he might not get to play as much. So, he decided to return to the Netherlands.
Back in the Netherlands with PSV
Wim Jonk went back to the Netherlands and signed with PSV. He continued to play well and helped PSV win more trophies.
Playing in England
For the 1998–99 season, Jonk moved to England to play for Sheffield Wednesday. He was a regular player for the team, which was trying to avoid being moved down to a lower league. He was sometimes injured during his time there. He barely played in his last season, 2000–01, because of a groin injury.
