Winchell's Donuts House is a well-known international company that sells delicious doughnuts and coffee. It was started by Verne Winchell on October 8, 1948, in Temple City, California. Today, you can find over 170 Winchell's stores in 6 western states, as well as places like Guam, Saipan, and Saudi Arabia. The company's main office is in the City of Industry, California. In the past, some stores were also open in Nagoya, Japan.
The Story of Winchell's
Winchell's Donuts House has a famous slogan: "Home of the Warm 'n Fresh Donut." They say they are the biggest doughnut chain on the West Coast of the United States. One special thing about Winchell's is that they offer a "14-doughnut dozen." This means you get 14 doughnuts when you buy a dozen, instead of the usual 12 or a baker's dozen of 13.
In 2004, another company called Yum-Yum Donuts bought Winchell's. Yum-Yum Donuts runs about 70 of its own doughnut shops. However, they decided to keep the Winchell's stores open and use the Winchell's name.
Around the early 2000s, Winchell's closed its shops in Portland, Oregon. Other doughnut shops called "Heavenly Donuts" took their place. In 2005, Winchell's also left the Kansas City area. Most of those locations then became Krispy Kreme doughnut shops.
