A Look at Wolffdene's Past
Wolffdene has a bit of history, especially with its old school.
The Wolffdene School
Around 1874, a school called Belivah Provisional School first opened. Classes were held in a church building.
By 1891, local families wanted the school moved closer to where more children lived. The government wasn't keen on paying for a new school building.
So, in March 1892, the people of the area started building a new school themselves! The Queensland Government then agreed to help by giving £37 to finish the building. This new school was renamed Wolffdene Provisional School.
On January 1, 1909, it became Wolffdene State School. It closed for a short time in 1935 but opened again on February 15, 1939. The school finally closed for good on August 31, 1942. The old school was located at 810 Beaudesert Beenleigh Road.
Plans for a Dam
In 1989, the government looked at building a large dam called the Wolffdene Dam on the Albert River. However, this plan was not approved.
Later, around 1990, there was another idea for a dam near Glendower Homestead. This plan was also dropped. It was decided that building a dam there would be too expensive for the amount of water it would provide.
