Woodberry is a suburb located in the City of Maitland in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is one of the easternmost suburbs of Maitland. In 2011, about 3,155 people lived in Woodberry. Most people live in houses built in special areas, but a large part of the suburb (almost 84%) is still rural land. About one-third of the people living here rent their homes.
Where is Woodberry Located?
Woodberry is found to the west of the Hunter River. About 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) of the river forms the eastern edge of the suburb. This river separates Woodberry from places like Heatherbrae and Tomago. These areas are part of the Port Stephens local government area.
Woodberry is connected by roads to nearby suburbs. These include Millers Forest, Beresfield, and Tarro.
How Floods Affect Woodberry
Much of Woodberry is on low-lying land that can flood. When the Hunter River floods, the roads to Millers Forest and Tarro can sometimes become blocked. However, the main living areas of Woodberry are on higher ground. This means that people can still get to Beresfield even during floods.
What Can You Do in Woodberry?
Woodberry is home to the Woodberry Warriors Rugby league team. Rugby league is a popular sport in Australia.
There is also a public school in Woodberry called Woodberry Public School. It is for both boys and girls and is located on Lawson Avenue.
