Woodside is a busy district (or neighborhood) in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It's found north of the River Clyde, nestled between the River Kelvin and the Forth and Clyde Canal. Woodside is also part of the bigger Maryhill area.

In the late 1960s, the M8 motorway was built. This road separated Woodside from its southern neighbors, Charing Cross and Garnethill.

History and Landmarks

Woodside is home to Glasgow's very first Carnegie Library. These libraries were built with money from a famous businessman named Andrew Carnegie. The Woodside Library is also the grandest of them all. All of Glasgow's Carnegie libraries were designed in a style called Edwardian Baroque by James Robert Rhind.

A famous person's father, Joseph Connery, was born in Woodside in 1902. His son grew up to be the well-known actor Sean Connery.

Getting around Woodside is easy with public transport. You can use the Subway system. The closest stations are Kelvinbridge and St George's Cross.

Woodside is a hub for many different businesses. You'll find small and medium-sized companies here. For example, Breast Cancer Care, an organization that helps people affected by breast cancer, has offices in Woodside. Abbey Business Centres also provides spaces for other companies.

Important Events

On May 11, 2004, a serious event happened in Woodside. There was an explosion at the Stockline Plastics factory. This tragic accident caused the four-story building to be mostly destroyed.
