Xuxa (also called Xuxa 1) is a music album by the famous Brazilian singer and TV host, Xuxa. This was her sixth studio album, but it was her very first one sung entirely in Spanish.

The album was first released on November 18, 1989, in Chile and the United States. Later, in January 1990, it came out in other parts of Latin America. By August of the same year, it was available in Europe.

Xuxa 1 sold over 1.9 million copies. It became very popular, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart. The album includes popular songs like "Ilarié", "Danza de Xuxa", and "Arco Iris". Because of this album, Xuxa was nominated for a "Pop New Artist of the Year" award at the 1990 Lo Nuestro Awards.

Why Xuxa Made a Spanish Album

Xuxa was already very famous in Brazil and other Latin American countries. Her songs were a big part of her TV show, El Show de Xuxa.

One of her songs, "Ilariê", became a huge hit even outside Brazil. Because of this success, people decided to re-record some of her most popular songs from her first three Portuguese albums into Spanish.

Xuxa didn't speak Spanish very well at first. She took a special language course to learn how to pronounce the words correctly for the album. Some song lyrics, like the names of characters in "Bombón", were changed to make them rhyme in Spanish. The music itself stayed mostly the same, but it was mixed differently for the new album.

This Spanish album brought together many of Xuxa's biggest hits. These included "Ilariê" (originally "Ilariê"), "Dulce Miel" (from "Doce Mel"), "Arco Iris" (from "Arco-Íris"), "Danza de Xuxa" (from "Dança da Xuxa"), and "Juguemos a Los Indios" (from "Vamos Brincar de Índio").

How the Album Was Made

The album was produced by Michael Sullivan, Paulo Massadas, and Guto Graça Mello. Max Pierre and Guto Graça Mello helped with the artistic side.

The recording happened at the Som Livre studios in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

When and Where the Album Was Released

The album first came out in Chile and the United States on November 18, 1989. The record company Som Livre released it.

In January 1990, it was released in Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Venezuela, and other countries. In Brazil, the album was launched in August 1990 by Som Livre.

The album cover, back cover, and booklet looked a bit different in each country. This was because of changes in the song lyrics or other information. On some versions, the cover even showed how to say Xuxa's name correctly: "Shu-sha".

Album Sales and Success

Xuxa 1 did very well! It reached number 4 on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart in the US.

By March 1991, the album had sold 1.2 million copies. By September of the same year, it had sold over 2 million copies across ten different countries.

Promoting the Album

To promote the album, Xuxa traveled a lot. On November 18, 1989, she went to a big meeting in Miami, USA. There, she performed some shows and gave interviews to radio and TV stations. She even got offers to bring her next tour to other Latin American countries.

On February 22, 1990, Xuxa performed at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile. She was so good and got the crowd so excited that she won the top prize. She was even asked to perform again the very next day!

When the album was released in Europe in October 1990, Xuxa appeared on TV shows in Spain and Italy. She also performed on some of the biggest radio stations in Spain.

On November 19, Xuxa presented an award at the Emmy Awards in the US for the best children's TV program. She also sang her song "Danza de Xuxa" at the event.

In December, Xuxa had a special TV show in Argentina on the channel Telefé. On this show, she sang several songs from her new album.

Throughout 1990, Xuxa appeared on many TV and radio programs in countries like Mexico and Uruguay. Her "Xuxa 90" tour also went through Paraguay and Chile, with a slightly different set of songs.
