Y Fronllwyd is a mountain peak in Snowdonia, Wales. It's sometimes called the Carnedd y Filiast North Top. This peak is part of the Glyderau mountain range, which is a group of mountains in Snowdonia. Y Fronllwyd is located at the very northern end of this mountain range.
What is Y Fronllwyd?
Y Fronllwyd is a smaller peak that is connected to the larger Carnedd y Filiast mountain. It stands 720 meters (about 2,362 feet) tall. Even though it's a smaller peak, it's a great place for walking and exploring the beautiful Welsh landscape.
Amazing Views from the Top
When you reach the top of Y Fronllwyd, you can see some really cool sights! You'll get clear views of the town of Bethesda and the huge Penrhyn Quarry, which is a very old slate quarry. You can also see other mountain ranges like the Carneddau and the peak of Elidir Fawr. On a clear day, you might even spot the Menai Strait, which is a narrow stretch of water separating the island of Anglesey from mainland Wales.
The Nuttall List
Y Fronllwyd is special because it's included on something called the "Nuttall list." This list is a collection of mountains in England and Wales that are at least 2,000 feet (610 meters) high and have a certain amount of "prominence" (meaning they stick up enough from the land around them). Y Fronllwyd was first on the list, then taken off, but put back on after people checked its height and prominence very carefully again.
