Yerry Fernando Mina González (born on September 23, 1994) is a professional footballer from Colombia. He plays as a centre-back for the Serie A club Cagliari. He also plays for the Colombia national team.
Yerry Mina holds a special record. He shares the record for scoring the most goals as a defender in a single FIFA World Cup. He scored three goals at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Clubs
Starting at Deportivo Pasto
Yerry Mina was born in Guachené, Colombia. He joined the youth team of Deportivo Pasto when he was 18 years old. In 2013, he moved up to the main team. His first professional game was on March 20, 2013, in a cup match against Dépor.
He played his first top-league game in Colombia on September 15, 2013, against Deportivo Cali. Yerry scored his first goal as a professional player on October 18, 2013, in a game against Atlético Huila.
Moving to Independiente Santa Fe
On December 14, 2013, Mina joined another top Colombian club, Independiente Santa Fe. He first joined on a one-year loan. He played his first game for Santa Fe on January 25, 2014, in a 3–0 win against Rionegro.
He became a very important player for the club. Santa Fe had a very successful time, winning many titles. In his first full year, his team won the Colombian league in 2014. They beat Independiente Medellín in the final match.
Mina also helped Santa Fe win the 2015 Superliga Colombiana. He scored the first goal in their 2–0 win against Atlético Nacional in the final game. He was a regular player for Santa Fe. He helped them win the 2015 Copa Sudamericana championship in 2015.
Playing for Palmeiras

On May 1, 2016, it was announced that Yerry Mina would join Palmeiras in Brazil. He signed a five-year contract with the club. He officially joined them the next month.
Mina played his first game for Palmeiras on July 4, 2016. They won 3–1 against Sport Recife. He scored his first goal for the team in the next game, a 1–1 draw against Santos. During that game, he got injured and had to leave the field. This injury meant he could not play in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
By late August 2016, Mina was fully recovered. He became a key player for Palmeiras. In September, he scored goals against big rivals like São Paulo and Corinthians. He ended the year with four league goals. His team won the Brazilian league title for the first time in 22 years.
Joining Barcelona
On January 11, 2018, FC Barcelona and Palmeiras agreed for Yerry Mina to join Barcelona. He signed a contract until June 30, 2023. This made him the first Colombian player ever to play for Barcelona. The transfer cost about €11.8 million.
Mina made his debut for Barcelona in a cup semi-final game against Valencia. He came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute. Barcelona won the game 2–0. He played his first home and league game against Getafe, which ended in a 0–0 draw. He also helped his team by assisting a goal in a 5–1 win against Villarreal.
Moving to Everton
On August 8, 2018, Mina signed with the Premier League team Everton in England. The deal was worth €30 million.
He played his first game for Everton in a 3–1 home win against Brighton & Hove Albion. He came on as a substitute at the end of the game.
He scored his first goal for Everton in a 5–1 away win against Burnley. It was a header from a cross, scored in the first two minutes of the match.
On February 1, 2020, he scored two goals in one game for Everton against Watford. He scored both goals just before halftime. Everton came back from being 2–0 down to win the game 3–2.
Mina scored his first goal for Everton in the 2020–21 season with a powerful header against Brighton. This was in a 4–2 victory at Goodison Park on October 3, 2020.
Playing for Fiorentina
On August 4, 2023, Mina joined the Serie A club Fiorentina in Italy. He joined them for free. He played 4 games for the club.
Joining Cagliari
On February 1, 2024, Mina signed a contract with Cagliari until June 30, 2024. The club has an option to extend his contract for the 2024–25 season.
International Career
In 2016, Mina was chosen to be part of Colombia's team for the Copa América Centenario. He started one game against Costa Rica. He played in five of Colombia's qualifying matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In May 2018, he was named to Colombia's final team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
At the 2018 World Cup, Yerry Mina scored three goals for Colombia. All of them were headers. He did not play in Colombia's first game, which they lost 2–1 to Japan. But he started as a centre back in all of Colombia's other matches. In the group stage, he scored the first goal in a 3–0 win over Poland. Then, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 win over Senegal. This win helped Colombia finish at the top of their group and move to the knockout stage.
In the round of sixteen, against England, Mina scored in the 93rd minute. This tied the score at 1–1 and sent the game into extra time. Colombia lost the game on penalty kicks, which ended their tournament. With his three goals, he tied the record for the most goals scored by a defender in a single World Cup. He shares this record with German players Paul Breitner (1974) and Andreas Brehme (1990).
Personal Life
Yerry Mina's father and uncle were both professional football goalkeepers. His father told him to play a different position. His uncle took him to a tryout for Deportivo Pasto. Yerry's brother, Juan José, is also a footballer.
His uncle, Jair Mina, is also his agent.
Mina is a very religious Christian. He is a member of the neo-Pentecostal Church of God Ministry of Jesus Christ International. Mina has often spoken at church events about his life and his faith.
