The Zealand River is a river about 6.3-mile-long (10.1 km) in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire, United States. It's like a smaller stream that flows into a bigger river called the Ammonoosuc River. All the water from the Zealand River eventually joins the Connecticut River, which means it's part of the huge watershed for the Connecticut River. Think of a watershed as a big bowl where all the rain and snow melt eventually flow into one main river.
Where the Zealand River Flows
The Zealand River starts high up on the eastern side of Mount Hale. This mountain is in the town of Bethlehem, New Hampshire. From there, the river flows southeast into a narrow valley called Zealand Notch. Then, it makes a turn and heads north.
River's Journey and Surroundings
As the Zealand River travels, it has a hiking path next to it called the Zealand Trail. After that, a road called Zealand Road runs alongside it. This road is kept up by the White Mountain National Forest, a large protected area.
The river valley is like a natural border. It separates Mount Hale on the west side from Mount Tom on the east side. Further north, you can see the Rosebrook Mountains looking down on the river from the east. To the west, there are smaller rocky hills called South, Middle, and North Sugarloaf.
The river also flows past the Zealand Campground, a place where people can camp in the national forest. Finally, the Zealand River meets the Ammonoosuc River just east of the small village of Twin Mountain, which is in the town of Carroll.
